Hi everyone, I am feeling very sorry for myself. My hip pain is much worse, so much that I cant move in bed at all, or its sheer agony. The only way I can get any sleep is to lie flat and try not to move.
When I sit down pain goes from my bum right down my legs.
The swelling in ankles and feet is much worse. My tongue is full of ulcers, the sides of my mouth is sore, I am feeling very down.....
My appointment with the nurse is 13th Sept, I so much hope something can be done

Hi Barbara

Just a note to say I m sorry you are having so much continual pain, it really is awful for you when there is no let up especially at night when you need restful sleep.

Just hope it does subside a little and you have much needed relief, roll on the 13th !

Thinking of you, Julia xx

Hello Barbara

Sorry you feeling so down I really do feel for you. You describe that you could have a trapped nerve.
That I know is most unfortable.

Would it be wise perhaps to see your GP ?

Hi Barbara

Sorry to hear you are in such a bad way at the moment ... I am in a similar boat just now and hence I am posting in the middle of the night!

I have in the past suffered greatly with trochanteric busitis of the right hip and this sounds very similar to what you are describing. The pain in the hip and down the leg can be totally immobilising. I had several non-effective joint injections into the hip before finally being referred for injection by ultrasound. The inflamed bursa can be easily spotted on the scan meaning the needle could be targeted to the precise are of inflammation; the result was very fast relief and a long lasting outcome. The rheumatologist should be able to identify whether this is the problem and refer you for treatment. The best way I can describe it is if you lay flat on your back and then try to raise the affected leg from the hip across your body, if it is the greater trochanter you will feel it pulling across the hip joint and down through the leg. In fact it is possible that pain will stop you from doing this. Have you tried a hot water bottle on the hip, as a temporary measure?

As regards ulcers, I used to get a preparation called Adcortyl in Orabase, a thick paste which you apply as necessary; it always worked well because it actually adhered to the ulcers unlike water based products that quickly dissolve. I believe this has now been discontinued in the UK but might be worth asking a pharmacist if a similar product is available.

Hope things improve for you soon Barbara, it's no joke being in continual pain. Pecker up chuck, don't let the b****r get you down.

Lyn xx Smile

Thanks Lyn, I will try the leg test tonight, in fact very soon!! I know what you mean, posting in the middle of the night due to pain etc I will ask the pharmacist if theres anything they can recommend for the ulcers. Its affecting the inside of my mouth now too. I am getting a rash on my legs, this happened last summer when I was on sulfasalazine, and I was taken off them. A that time I had felt ill, like a flu type of ill. The consultant said I was in a bad flare, and asked why I hadnt asked to come sooner, I replied that I had no idea it was a flare, the swelling seems there most of the time, its not always red and hot, so I assume its just the normal thing. I feel this way again now, but I just carry on as I have the little ones to see to. The last time I had the little girl I was childminding with me, and could hardly walk, but I had the buggy to lean on, as I told him, he looked at me like I was crazy (maybe because he had a son of just 3 himself) but I felt I was just a bit off that week. Wish me luck in two weeks time.
Thanks you everyone for the support, it means alot x x x
